Brett Suggs Announces CARS Tour Debut at Southern National
Mooresville, NC | 2/27/2023
Brett Suggs announced that he will make his first CARS Tour start on March 11th at Southern National Motorsports Park as part of the Puryear Tanklines 225 Pro Late Model race.
The high-banked 4/10th mile speedway in Lucama, North Carolina is home to the richest Late Model Stock Car race in the country with a $50k prize at the annual Thanksgiving Classic. It's a place where Brett has limited experience at, yet it's a track where he's found success in the past. In his final season with the Allison Legacy Series in 2018, Suggs went to victory lane after a 35-lap battle in the 3/4 scale racecars. Visiting the speedway with a Pro Late Model now, Brett feels like the momentum-strategy of a Legacy car will help in his third late model start for TH Motorsports.
"We went over to test on Sunday to build a notebook for the race weekend. The last time Kyle [Hood] was at Southern National was back in the 90s, so he didn't have much history to go off of. We ended the day pretty close to how we feel we need to be on raceday and I'm excited to get over here and go for my second victory at this track."

Coming from a top-10 in January's SpeedFest at Crisp Motorsports Park, Brett has high hopes for his first start with the tour that's now under leadership by Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Justin Marks. The last race for TH Motorsports was a challenging weekend with all odds stacked against the team as far as the horsepower disadvantage went, so Brett and Kyle are ready for a new shot at putting all the pieces together for a successful weekend.
"We have the right people in place to go out there and have a successful weekend. Hickory last year was a test run for all of us. SpeedFest was our plan to show what we are capable of, but people only saw the finishing results and don't know the full story as to why we weren't able to run inside the top 5 like I know we can. As long as we don't have any surprises come about on raceday, I know what we as a team can do."
March 11th will mark Brett's first start with the CARS Tour, a series that he has dreamed of racing with since he moved to North Carolina in 2015 and was introduce by the Throwback 276 race at Hickory.
"With the direction my racing career was headed in 2019\2020, I thought I would never have this opportunity to go CARS Tour racing. I kept my face in front of people throughout 2021 announcing for the Southeast Super Truck Series, I ran my business [BSRM] fulltime in 2022 while working with great teams and drivers and attending more notable races. I found a home with everyone at TH Motorsports which has now elevated into a driver/marketing manager role."
Brett's goal for his debut may not come as a surprise. He wants to show the short track world what TH Motorsports can do. Whether that comes with a win or with a top-5 finish, he just wants to be in contention for the team and partner's sake.
"I obviously have some personal goals that I want to fulfill for the race, but none of that compares to what I want to do for this team and the partners that stand behind us. With Coltman Farms Racing partnering with TH, I want to make those folks proud. But also, for my own partners and supporters of Lake Norman Power Cleaning, Maconi Setup Shop, Racing America, BSRM, Racer Tees, and our social media followers, I want them to see our preparation paying off."
The full weekend schedule for the CARS Tour season opener has been released with practice on Friday and Saturday, gates opening at 12:30pm, qualifying at 2:00pm, and racing at 3:00pm live on FloRacing.
