Carter Scores Top 10 in SpeedFest Debut

Updated: Apr 22, 2022

Cordele, GA | 2/2/22

In a weekend filled with cool breezes and bone-chilling temperatures, Tanner Carter made his premier start in the 2022 SpeedFest at Crisp Motorsports Park in the TH Motorsports Pro Late Model. The 15-year-old out of Monroe, Georgia entered the weekend with a goal of winning, but for it only being his fifth start in the late model, walking away with a clean car and making all 100 laps would be a success.

Practice for the TH Motorsports team began Thursday afternoon when the crew arrived in Cordele, Georgia. Between Thursday and Friday testing, the team and driver alike felt like they had a strong LMI Systems, INC. #15 Chevy to run up front for the 100 lap main event on Saturday afternoon. After the conclusion of qualifying on Friday night, Carter sat 18th on the speed charts out of a sizable and stacked 30 car field. Disappointed in his efforts, Carter and team owner Kyle Hood sat down for a meeting to discuss how the car felt, what needed to be adjusted, and how to approach raceday coming from deep in the field. Hood remained confident and collected that Tanner could drive up through the field with the well-prepared North Creek Construction Group racecar.

Raceday arrived and so did the cool breeze and chilling temps. Carter arrived to the speedway ready to take on the challenge he had ahead of himself. Hours went by as the TH Motorsports team waited forbearingly for the call to head to the grid in preparation for the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour Presented By Chevrolet Performance Pro Late Model 100. The crew did everything they could to stay warm while going over a final checklist to make sure the #15 was 100% ready to go.

After a slight miscommunication with the schedule from the race just prior to the Pro's, it was time for Tanner to hop behind the wheel and strap in to take the green. Being in such cold temperatures, the CRA officials gave teams nearly 10 minutes on track to put heat into the tires and racecars for optimal performance on the drop of the green flag.

The field doubled up and it was time to go green. Rolling off 18th, Carter kept his eyes peeled for any early-race mishaps out of the competition. The field did an excellent job of starting the race off clean and smooth. It wasn't until lap 15 when the first yellow flag flew, and at that point, Tanner had already picked up 3 spots to move his way into 15th.

Back to the restart, the CRA Pro Late Models came around for a 40-lap green-flag run before the next caution ensued. Now, Carter had made up even more ground and was up to 12th while just passing halfway. Immediately on the next restart, a few cars tangled together directly behind Tanner and brought out an instant yellow.

After the multi-car incident was cleaned up, the remainder of the race finished under green-flag conditions and Tanner Dean gathered two more positions before the checkered flag was out. Coming from 18th to 10th, the Monroe native brought the Chevy back to the trailer in one piece with minimal scratches.

Tanner Carter did an excellent job behind the wheel, while the TH Motorsports crew worked very hard behind the scenes to give him a great racecar to navigate up through the field.

Tanner Dean Racing and team would like to thank LMI Systems, North Creek Construction Group, Weaver Distributors, Velocita USA, the entire TH Motorsports team, and all friends and family who support his racing career. Tanner's next race is currently not determined but will be announced to his social channels when plans are set.
